James Eagle: a travelling illustrator and screen printer based in Melbourne, Australia

Q&A

Tell us about yourself. I’m an illustrator and screen printer based in Melbourne and I grew up in Wellington, NZ. Travelling is a big part of my life and also my work.

What got you into designing and how long have you been designing for? I have always drawn and doodled ideas down in a sketchbook for as long as I can remember. After traveling and living abroad for several years I moved to Melbourne where I went back to school to study graphic design. So it has been the last few years.

How would you describe your design style? I am inspired by my surroundings and I see the little gems in the everyday. Whether it’s a beat up ute parked around the corner or an old faded shop sign. My style has a hand-drawn feel with a sense of nostalgia and a touch
of humor.

What motivates and inspires you to get out of bed each day? Coffee, bacon or when I’m lucky both. It’s the love for what I do that gets me going.

Tell us about the artwork you’ve designed for The Paper Merchants? The designs I have done for you guys are colorful, fun and a reflection of places I have been.
