Q&A

Tell us about yourself. I am a freelance designer and artist, currently living in the beautiful Sunshine Coast with my husband and our 2 year old German Shepherd. Originally from Brisbane, we were living a busy corporate lifestyle, until we both wanted to say goodbye to city living, and reside by the beach, whilst following our true passions in life.

What got you into designing and how long have you been designing for? I have always had a love for design and art, and this led me to study Interior Design straight out of school. With a long family history in hospitality, I naturally gravitated towards retail interior design, and after a few years in the industry, found myself working for the largest shopping centre owner in the world. After 5 years with this corporate giant, I realised that my work had become too much about spreadsheets and meetings, and not enough about art and design. I always gravitated towards illustration and graphic art, so I decided to study Graphic Design part-time whilst I was still working full-time - best decision I ever made!! I instantly knew that I had found my true passion, and I never looked back! I started my freelance business only 3 months after graduating, and have been lucky enough to continue to grow my freelance clients. Cass Deller Design has now been in business for 2 years, and I couldn’t be happier with the progression I’ve had and the amazing people I’ve been so thankful to work with.

How would you describe your design style? My design style has most definitely progressed over time, however I would describe it as feminine, positive and free-spirited. I love variety, and challenging my creativity, so I try not to narrow down my style too much. I want to always be evolving, experimenting, and creating new and wonderful designs.

What motivates and inspires you to get out of bed each day? I can’t tell you how much I love what I do. Every day I wake up in a relaxing beach side town, where I get to start and end my day surrounded by amazing & inspiring people, and creating new and beautiful designs, what more can I ask for :)

Tell us about the artwork you’ve designed for The Paper Merchants? I’m really excited about the range I am working on for The Paper Merchants. For this range of wallpaper, I was most definitely inspired by our recent summer, and the endless beach vibes i’m surrounded by. This entire collection has been created using my favourite medium, watercolour. I am constantly mesmerised by way in which the pigment interacts with water, like it has a mind of its own. I have tried to introduce some versatility into this range, which is why you will notice some very detailed artworks, alongside some more subtle designs.
